Sparking the love of music

My mission is to give young piano students the means to experience and share the love of music.

Jewel is an experienced composer, and an engaging, high-caliber piano teacher for children five to eighteen. Through the learning of piano skills, student will learn more important thing which is the understanding of music. Jewel emphasizes not just the technique, but more importantly the 3W (what's the music theory, what each piece of music tries to tell us, what's the way to express that feeling through piano). In such way, students understand not only how but also why.

Class Information

There are 3 type of 1-on-1 class : 30 min, 45 min, and 60 min.

  • Tracking Progress : The student tracks their progress towards these goals by logging their learning with Jewel and practice times at home on weekly basis.
  • Monthly Achievements : Jewel will provide monthly evaluation, and will celebrate when they reach each level.
  • Practice

Regular practice is essential for any student, no matter how naturally gifted the student may be.

  • Practice is extremely important. Jewel will work with each student to set up a daily practice target, and Parents are required to work with the student to ensure required practice time and quality. It should be a daily, uninterrupted routine.
  • Daily practice should be logged by the student, and will be reviewed by Jewel on weekly basis (see Tracking Progress above).
  • Competitions

    Recitals / Auditions / Tests / Competitions

  • Numerous performance opportunities, such as Holiday Concert and Annual Concerts, are available for students to share their music with friends and family.
  • Students are also encouraged to participate in Piano Concerto and Solo Competitions, held by the Music Teachers’ Association of California.
  • Note that Jewel does not encourage students to participate in excessive auditions / tests / competitions, since such preparation will take away valuable time from normal course of study. National Music Research white paper shows that the progress of students with excessive competition lack behind normal students by average of 40%.
